What's even more alarming than the hysterical nonsense Melanie Phillips spouts? The absurd yowling rants that some seriously messed up people have published on her page later. Particularly 'James from Edinburgh', who clearly needs psychiatric treatment, fast.

As a Store Manager who worked my way up from the shop floor during my college years, I have had to deal cases of with theft and fraud within my team. Such behaviour is obviously unacceptable, and usually quite rightly leads to dismissal as it is gross misconduct. However, I find the idea outlined below very misguided and really quite appalling:
"Retail employees suspected of theft, fraud or damage could soon find their details listed on a national register, available to every retail company in the UK. The database will allow retailers to search for an individual by surname, forename, date of birth, NI number, address and previous employer. It will even include photographs of individuals."
Although I am completely against any form of dishonesty in business, I find this database development absurd, to put it mildly. Why? Well, please note that theft, fraud, etc does not have to PROVEN for the supposed offender to be added to this list which is then available to every retailer in the UK. The simple fact opf the matter is that this is wide open to abuse by unscrupulous managers and companies who are somewhat dubious in the way they deal with their employees. Anyone who doesn't think that this happens needs to wake up - this industry, unfortunately, has as many deceitful managers as it has deceitful sales people! What about the data protection act, not to mention good HR practice and confidentiality?
Theft and fraud are terrible and should not be tolerated... but this is NOT the way to deal with it. The launch of this website will mean that even if an employee has not been proven to be gulity, their details will be available to all and sundry within the industry, so they may never work again despite having done nothing wrong. There must be better ways to ensure that our teams are working in an honest an open fashion.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry - I did a bit of both when I saw that this isn't intemded to be satirical. The scariest aspect of this page is the fact that Mr 'Lightfoot' (Gordon, anyone?!) can delude himself, to the point of derangement, and yet offer his ridiculous arguments in a cogent, articulate manner. Stephen King wrote to this guy personally, advising him to put his "considerable talent" to a more positive use.
Another point: the serious conspiracy theorists seem hellbent on citing government coverups, consistently, since time immemorial. There may well be a grain of truth in that. I ask you, though:if The Powers That Be are so good at conspiracies stuff, surely they are capable of getting something else right once in a while?
Enough said on that score!

From the page: "New monthly price plans from Vodafone will now come with unlimited mobile internet access as standard, to take advantage of the growing popularity of email and social networking on mobile devices.
Pay monthly customers will no longer have to buy an additional internet bundle for £7.50, with every plan now automatically including internet access. It will make Vodafone the first mobile phone operator to offer a flat rate monthly tariff with a flat rate monthly tariff. The company looks keen to grab as much of an advantage as possible to compete in a very crowded market."

From the page: "The internet could grind to a halt within two years under the pressure of booming demand for online video, experts have warned. Soaring visitor numbers to video websites such as YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer are putting the copper wires, which underpin parts of the internet, under severe strain.
Experts warn that unless billions of pounds is spent on upgrading the web's infrastructure, it could slow down or even collapse. An internet meltdown would have a disastrous impact on the economy.
Last year it was said that YouTube consumed as much capacity as the entire internet took up in 2000."

Wrong. Is The BNP racist? Is the Pope Catholic?
The BNP consists of a lovely mixture of fascists and poor misguided fools, led by a frighteningly intelligent racist who knows how to get the support of those too hopelessly blind to catch onto what he REALLY stands for. I don't deny that some of their green policies and policies on crime are sensible, but I see straight through Nik Griffin's inflammatory, disturbing rhetoric, and so would anyone else with a biot of basic common sense. End of story.
